CONTEXT
Splinter City is an original character tournament, where artists pit their storytelling skills against each other. The setting is shared between contestants, opponents building onto each others' stories as they develop their own. DR. TRADO D'KEHR
Pronouns: She/Her
Species: Vater
Trado’s personality is best described as glacial. Not an archetypical genius, it’s sheer determination that brings her to her goals at a slow and steady pace. As such, she’s very patient, taking time to be methodical with her work. Her patience is accompanied by kindness, especially for those who want to learn. She enjoys teaching, and will happily encourage students to find answer on their own.

"THE CAPTAIN"
Pronouns: He/It/They
Species: ???
Not much is known about the enigmatic captain of the Brigantine Substantiation. If anything, sending Trado to Splinter City hints at a mischievious nature at best, impulsive at worst.
Regardless, Trado does seem to recall him fondly. How or why they parted ways is currently unknown.

BRIGANTINE SUBSTANTIATION
Pronouns: She/It/They
Species: Ship?
A living ship that Trado served on in the past, and which left Trado the four biomachines and the gloves that she still uses today. Why she left in the first place, however, is not currently known.

COUNCILLOR ARDA BREN
Pronouns: She/Her
Species: Vater
Arda Bren has spent the last twenty years on the council working on infrastructure renovations. Naturally, it fell to her to take on the vault projects in the hopes to save even a small portion of vaterity. Understandably, she's very stressed and not at all pleased that a thing of fairy tales is threatening her people.

OFFICER VALO HUL
Pronouns: They/She
Species: Vater
As a public safety officer, Hul's primary job is to ensure civilian safety in regards to environmental hazards. The leader of their unit due to a recent wave of dismissals and resignations from the senior officers, Hul's trying their best to fill the space left for them. Though not the best with vocabulary, Hul readily reaches for the bigger picture, often drawing connections between things and people that couldn't be seen before.

Public Safety Officers
Public safety officers are the most common type of officer seen on Vatera and make up the bulk of emergency service workers. Their brightly colored uniform is to encourage civilians to seek them out and their transparent mask is intended to balance air filtration with ease of communication. PSOs are trained to aid civilians during environmental hazards, both natural and artificial. While they may occasionally deal with hazardous persons, PSOs are armed primarily with de-escalation techniques, secondarily with pepper spray.
PSOs were originally an extension of the Ceremonial Guard, the expansion necessary as Vateran countries unified and, due to popular vote, dismantled the contemporary law enforcement groups. Due to the often failing health of royal families, the Ceremonial Guard was already closely connected to the healthcare system and the transition to public safety was almost natural.
Ceremonial Officers
Despite the changing views, Vatera still considered it prudent to maintain an armed force. Unlike historical precedents, the Ceremonial Guard was explicitly trained in combat against wild animals. Incidents involving the deaths of civilians would be highly scrutinized, charges of murder absolutely not out of the question for a lackadaisical guard.
With the influence of intergalactic culture, the duty to protect and serve the public was officially ratified in the charter of the Ceremonial Guard. Violation of that duty, whether purposeful or accidental, thus became grounds for immediate dismissal.
Character Trivia
All three vater that have appeared have real horse coat colors. Trado is a bay, while Bren is a grulla and Hul a palomino. Oço, though not seen, is a red dun.
Additionally, Trado is inspired a drafthorse while Bren and Hul are thoroughbreds. Oço, had he appeared, would have resembled an Andalusian.
The Blurb
The universe is a massive place, so massive that you don’t want to traverse it alone, even if you are a sentient construct of plasma. Fortunately for Zathu, he’s found companionship in the mercenary Jonah Herschel. Unfortunately for
Jonah, being accompanied by sentient plasma is hell for business.
Especially when the plasma is dragging him on a grander adventure than he’d ever hoped to embark on.

ZATHU
Pronouns: He/They/It
Species: Raccoon?
A bombastic little creature, Zathu seems to live to cause trouble. Whether this trouble is in good fun or not doesn't always occur to him, but a budding sense of morality has him considering others' feelings.
He's currently
looking for a good friend of his, and spending time with Jonah until he finds them.

JONAH HERSCHEL
Pronouns: He/Him
Species: Human
A soldier from birth, Jonah is a no-nonsense mercenary whose daily routine involves questioning the choices that led him to working with Zathu.

The Blurb
“The vision recurs; the eastern sun has a second rise; history repeats her tale unconsciously, and goes off into a mystic rhyme; ages are prototypes of other ages, and the winding course of time brings us round to the same spot again.”
-The Christian Remembrancer
The world is meant to exist in a sort of equilibrium, but the balance has been shaken for as long as memory serves. Ancient forces seek to right this balance, to go home and make peace, but the journey is long and the path winding.
Still, is it not the journey that makes the destination worth it?
Here, the journey has just begun. The players are getting into their places, drawn by a want for peace.
The city of Wickhill faces an influx of dangerous spirits. Preston Taggart, the son of two city watchmen and the brother of a vigilante, is determined to follow in his family's footsteps and help his city. His luck has run dry, however, as his only leads to such power become Altaris Conrad, a disgraced detective, and Sasha, a cryptic spirit.
He’ll have to make do.
